LENT VOICES — STORIES
Nigel
Reflecting on prayer in everyday life.
“Having breakfast with Jesus.”
Nigel describes his prayer time as “having breakfast with Jesus.”
For him, prayer isn’t about long lists or finding the right words. It’s about relationship. He imagines sitting down at the start of the day with Christ — unhurried, present, and attentive.
There’s something simple and grounding about that image. Breakfast is ordinary. Daily. Familiar. And in that ordinariness, Nigel finds space to be honest — bringing whatever is on his heart without pressure or performance.
Prayer, for him, is less about striving and more about dwelling. About showing up. About being with Jesus as you would with someone you trust.
“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple.”
Reflection questions
- When you picture sitting with Jesus, does it feel relaxed and unhurried?
If not, what might help it feel more like rest than effort? - What’s on your heart at the moment that you could gently share with God? A joy? A worry? A question?
You don’t need the perfect words.
Just bring yourself.
He is already there.
