LENT VOICES — STORIES
Debbie
Reflecting on prayer in everyday life.
One of our Lent Voices reflections from the Chilwell Parish community.
“I felt my legs were Praying”
In this week’s story, Debbie reflects on how prayer is not only about asking God to change things around us, but also about allowing God to change us. Sometimes prayer invites us to notice where God might be prompting us to respond — to take a step, to act, or to move towards someone in need.
Debbie shares how prayer can become something that shapes our lives in practical ways. Rather than remaining just words, prayer can lead us to live differently, helping our faith take shape in everyday actions.
Her story gently reminds us that prayer is not always about waiting for circumstances to shift. Often it is about listening for how God might be inviting us to move, letting our prayers find expression not only in our words, but also in the steps we take.
Reflection question
- Can you think of a recent prayer where God might be inviting you to take an active step in response, encouraging your ‘legs to pray’? What could that step be?
- How have you experienced prayer changing you rather than simply changing your circumstances?

If you’d like a simple way to begin or end the day in prayer, you might try the Daily Prayer app from the Church of England. It follows the rhythms of Morning and Evening Prayer, drawing together Psalms, Bible readings, and prayers from Common Worship.
We’ve also gathered together a range of other apps and guides that can help you pause, reflect, and build simple rhythms of prayer into everyday life.
